Skiing areas are located all across the Appalachian Mountain range that span across the entire state of Vermont. There are over 18 ski resorts throughout Vermont, providing a range of specialties. Vermont provides some of the most children and family friendly resorts in the US. Some of the best ski terrains and highest peaks are located in Vermont as well. The skiing season in Vermont usually lasts from November through April. The average snowfall in Vermont resorts ranges from about 180 to 350 inches per year.

Killington is the largest resort in Vermont, and indeed also in the eastern United States. The resort features over 200 ski and snowboard trails, encompassing seven mountain peaks. The tallest peak, Killington, is the highest peak reachable by a gondola New England. The resort offers terrains mostly for intermediate skill levels: 30% beginner, 39% intermediate and 31% advanced. Cochran ski area is run by a nonprofit organization. The ski area caters only to children, offering skiing and snowboarding programs, hosting school children and is home to a junior ski team. The area has eight slopes with difficulties ranging from beginner to intermediate: 22% beginner, 56% intermediate and 22% advanced. In addition so skiing and snowboarding, many resorts in Vermont offer cross country skiing, snow shoeing, snow tubing and ice skating and ice fishing.

Top Vermont Ski Resort

Sugarbush ski resort is one of the top ski resorts in the US. There are 111 trails spread across six mountain peaks. The trails, known for their natural skiing quality and among the best in the eastern US, offer the full gamut of terrain difficulties: 20% beginner, 45% intermediate, 27% advanced and 8% expert. Snowboarding is allowed on the trails, in addition to a terrain park and halfpipe. There are five resort lodges located across the skiing area and at the base of the mountain.

Smugglers Notch ski resort is consistently rated the number one family resort in North America. There are 78 trails open to both snowboarding and skiing, providing a full range of terrain difficulties for the entire family: 19% beginner, 56% intermediate, 20% advanced and 5% expert. There are a number of family accommodations, such as daycare, all day skiing and snowboarding camps, children’s programs and a water park. There are activities designed specifically for all age groups, providing appropriate and enjoyable fun for the whole family. The resort features a community residence area featuring condos along the mountainside and providing wonderful views.
