Shaun White

Shaun white was born on September 3, 1986 in Carlsbad California. He was born unfortunately with a congenital heart defect that was though to keep him from active sports. Shaun first got interested in skateboarding with the help of his older brother Jesse. They would skateboard at the YMCA in Encinitas that was known for its vertical ramps.

Shaun was first exposed to snowboarding at the age of 6. He and his family took a trip to June Mountain California. His brother again started snowboarding but Shaun was not allowed due to his young age. His mother however, stepped in and told him he could practice if he only snowboarded backward. This would go on to help further Shaun’s snowboarding career in the future.

Shaun white started to gain popularity largely thanks to his mother. As Shaun’s abilities grew she decided he needed his own snowboard. She phoned up Burton and asked them if they made a snowboard that would fit a 6 years old boy. This gave Shaun White one of his first sponsors. Today his sponsor list has grown to include T-mobile, Red bull, Target and many others.

Shaun White had a fantastic career as an amateur snowboarder. He participated in the winter X games from 200 onwards and has medalled each time. He won a gold medal at the 2006 winter Olympic displaying one of the fastest runs ever recorded. Shaun White turned professional in 2003 at the age of 16. Since then he has won numerous pro contests despite injuries and set backs.
