Pennsylvania has over 25 ski resorts. Many of these resorts are concentrated to the east of the state, north of Philadelphia. There are several other resorts scattered along the southern end of the state, closer to Pittsburgh. All of the resorts in Pennsylvania are located in the Appalachian Mountain range. The ski season in Pennsylvania generally starts in late November and continues through late march. There is an average snowfall of around 50 to 100 feet. Most resorts in Pennsylvania are open year around, and offer many activities for the entire family. Summer activities at the resorts include biking, golfing and fishing.

Many ski resorts in Pennsylvania are relatively small. The largest ski resort in the eastern area of the state is Camelback, located in the Pocono Mountain region. The resort is about 80 miles east of New York City. There are 33 trails, all lighted for night skiing, providing a full range of terrain difficulties for both skiers and snowboarders: 7% beginner, 54% intermediate, 24% advanced and 15% expert. The resort also has two terrain parks, two high-speed quads and a snowboard half pipe. There is also a park for snow tubing. There are many towns in the area with a variety of hotels, motels and rental accommodations.

The larger resorts in Pennsylvania are located in the southern area of the state. The largest ski resort in this region is the seven springs resort. The resort is about 60 miles southeast of Pittsburgh. Seven springs resort has 31 trails, with terrains of moderate difficulty: 50% beginner, 35% intermediate and 15% advanced. The trails are open to skiers, snowboarders and snow tubing, in addition to a terrain park and half pipe. The resort town of Seven springs features a wide array of dining and lodging, in addition to a convention center.

It can also be helpful to find a map of resorts within a particular region, such as the Pocono mountain region, to compare the proximity of resorts in order to help plan your trip. A map of the slopes and trails is indispensable to every skier. Maps are almost always posted around every resort. It is often best, however, to keep a copy of a map by your side while out on the slopes.
