Maryland Skiing

There is only one ski resort in Maryland, called the Wisp resort. It offers a variety of winter activities, including snow biking and snow tubing. There are also four nearby state parks, where one can go winter camping, cross country skiing and snowmobiling. The slopes at the Wisp resort are relatively gentle, making this resort a good place for people at the beginner and intermediate level to learn and practice skiing.

Maryland Ski Resort Location

The ski resort in Maryland is located in the western tip of the state, three hours to the west of Washington DC. The resort is located on the edge of the Appalachian mountain range. There are a number of rental properties available in the area, including cabins, condos and luxury homes. The Wisp Resort hotel is located on the resort itself, featuring a conference center and an array of amenities to make your stay comfortable. In addition to hotels, Bed and Breakfast accommodations are available. Deep creek lake is located near the Wisp resort. The lake provides attractions both during the winter and summer. During the winter, one can go ice fishing in the lake. During the summer, one can go waterskiing, whitewater rafting or kayaking.

Wisp Resort

The Wisp resort offers a relaxed winter getaway. Especially geared towards families, there are a variety of activities such as childcare, lesions and nature classes. There is also a conference center for business meetings. The ski season at the Wisp resort starts just before Thanksgiving and continues through late March, one of the longest seasons in the mid-Atlantic. There is an average snowfall of 100 inches, in addition to 90 acres of snow making capacity. Wisp resort offers 32 skiing runs for mostly beginner and intermediate levels: 41% beginning, 25% intermediate and 31% advanced. The ski runs are groomed nightly and open for night skiing. Snowboarding is allowed on all of the ski trails. In addition, snowboarders can enjoy either of the two terrain parks or the super pipe. Bear Claw snow tubing park offers nine chutes for snow tubing. There are also a number of programs for children, including a Children’s Learning Center for 8-14 year olds and snowboarding and ski lesson programs designed to teach children. The Wisp resort is also open during the summer. Summer activities include golfing, mountain biking, hiking, mountain climbing and horse back riding.
