Ski resorts in Canada are largely concentrated in four provinces: British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario and Quebec. The ski resorts in British Columbia are concentrated in the southern region of the province. The area has between 200 and 1200 inches of snowfall, and the ski season lasts from November through March. The province has 17, relatively small resorts. The Whistler/Blackcomb resort is the largest resort of the province, spanning over the Whistler and Blackcomb mountains. There are over 200 trails spanning the gamut of terrain difficulties.

The ski resorts in Alberta are largely concentrated to the southwestern area of the state. There are eight, moderate sized ski resorts in this province. The ski season lasts from November though May, with annual snowfalls around 400 inches. The largest ski resort in Alberta is Sunshine village. The resort has 107 runs spanning over three mountains: Goats eye, Lookout and Standish. The runs are mostly for beginning and intermediate levels, with some expert level terrain.

The ski resorts of Ontario are largely concentrated in the southeastern area of the province. The province has ten small to moderate size ski resorts. The season begins in November and continues through April, with average snowfalls over 100 inches. The largest resort in the province is Blue Mountain, with 34 trails spanning the terrain difficulties from beginner to expert. The ski area is in the center of the “Georgian Triangle,” spanning across the Niagara escarpment.

Some of the largest ski resorts in Canada can be found in Quebec. The province is also the location of some of the most difficult terrain. The Majority of resorts are located in the southern area of Quebec. The average snowfall for the area is around 150 inches, while the ski season lasts from November through April. Tremblant ski resort is one of the largest ski areas in Quebec. It has 94 runs spanning over 625 acres of skiable area. The terrain is suitable for all skill levels: 17% beginner, 33% intermediate, 39% advanced and 11% expert. An extreme snow park offers exhilarating fun for snowboarders, while novices can practice that the mini snow park. The resort town of pedestrian village offers a variety of fine dining, lodging and entertainment with a distinctly European feel.

Mont-Sainte-Anne resort is another one of the largest ski areas in Quebec. It has 64 runs over 428 acres of skiable area. The ski trails are open to snowboarders, and range in terrain from beginner to expert: 25% beginner, 45% intermediate, 20% advanced and 10% expert. The trails are less groomed, providing for a more rugged experience for the more adventurous skiers. Seventeen trails are equipped for night skiing. Accommodations are available both at the summit and base of the mountain.

The two major skiing areas in Canada are located in the Rocky Mountain and the Laurentian Mountains. The Rocky Mountains traverse through British Columbia and Alberta, while the Laurentian Mountains traverse through southern Ontario and Quebec.
